Peachy Plum Cobbler

1 cup sugar
3 tablespoons cornstarch
'12 teaspoon ground cinnamon
3 cups sliced fresh red plums (about 10
to 12 large)
4 medium peaches or nectarines, peeled
and sliced (about 3 cups)
1 cup all-purpose flour*
'13 cup shortening
2 tablespoons sugar
11/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
¥4 cup milk
1 egg, slightly beaten
1 tablespoon sugar
Ice cream or light cream (optional)

Heat oven to 375°. Mix 1 cup sugar, the cornstarch and
cinnamon in 3-quart saucepan. Stir in plums and peaches.
Cook. stirring constantly. until mixture thickens and boils.
Boil and stir 1 minute. Pour into ungreased baking dish.
BxBx2 inches. or 1l/2 -quart casserole.

Mix flour. shortening. 2 tablespoons sugar, the baking pow-
der and salt with pastry blender or fork until crumbly. Stir
in milk and egg. Drop dough by spoonfuls onto hot fruit
mixture; sprinkle with 1 tablespoon sugar. Bake until top-
ping is golden brown, 25 to 30 minutes. Serve warm with -
ice cream. 9 SERVINGS.

*If using self-rising flour, omit baking powder and salt.
